I found a few more plasmoids in playground. RSSNow plasmoid looks nice. It has this simple little animation to make the transition from one news item to another look smooth.

I noticed there is a plasmoid called “networkmanager” in playground. I wonder if that’ll use the NetworkManager backend and allow me to connect to wireless access points and change network settings on the fly; that’ll be awesome, I really miss that in KDE4. KNetworkManager4 is in playground but I couldn’t get it to build.

Show Desktop Plasmoid

I found the “Show Desktop” plasmoid in extragear.

It behaves a little differently though. It works like the dashboard feature in Mac OS X. Clicking on it displays the Plasma Dashboard (widgets on the desktop minus the panels). I also found another plasmoid called “Minimize-All” (in extragear) which behaves more like the traditional “Show Desktop” feature but it only minimises windows, clicking on it again does not restore the windows.

UPDATE : Things have changed now. KDE 4.1 comes with both “Show Desktop” and “Show Dashboard” applets and both work the way they are expected to work.
